Firewalls: The First Line of Defense in Cybersecurity

  3. Proxy Firewalls: A proxy firewall acts as an intermediary between the internal network and external sources. It evaluates requests and retrieves the necessary information on behalf of the user. This helps mask the internal network, providing additional security.
  4. Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFWs): NGFWs combine traditional firewall features with advanced capabilities like intrusion prevention systems (IPS), application awareness, and encrypted traffic inspection. NGFWs provide more granular control and better visibility into network traffic, allowing businesses to address modern threats effectively.
  1. Prevent Unauthorized Access: Firewalls block unauthorized access from external sources, ensuring that only legitimate traffic is allowed into your network.
  2. Protect Internal Resources: They help protect sensitive internal resources, such as databases and applications, by restricting access to only authorized users or devices.
  3. Control Traffic: Firewalls enable businesses to create policies that control which applications or services can be accessed by different users, adding an extra layer of security.
  4. Secure Remote Access: Firewalls ensure secure remote access for employees working from home or traveling by managing VPN (Virtual Private Network) connections and encrypting traffic.
